Get started
- Pin the extension.Open Chrome's Extensions menu and pin Auto Rename & Organize Downloads.
- Open the control panel.Click the extension icon, then switch it ON.
- Choose filename rules.Add a counter, original filename, website name, date, or custom text.
- Choose folder rules.Sort by file type, website, date, number, or a folder name you enter.
- Test before downloading.Use Preview / Test to confirm the final filename and folder path.

Local settings
Your rules, preferences, and rename log are stored locally in Chrome.
Privacy and permissions
The extension uses Chrome's Downloads access to rename, organize, display, and open your downloaded files. Storage access saves your settings and optional rename history locally.
File contents are not uploaded. Rename history may include local download metadata and source URLs, but this data is not transmitted automatically. The optional Feedback button opens your email application and sends only what you choose to include.
The extension does not sell or share this information. Its use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
